ENZED GO THE EXTRA MILE FOR TRANSPACIFIC CLEANAWAY NOOSA
Transpacific Cleanaway is Australia's largest solid waste management operator providing waste collection, fully integrated waste management and transportation solutions for domestic, business and industrial customers through leading edge systems and technologies.
Transpacific Cleanaway's Noosa facility is a typical example of the company's industry leading capabilities, providing domestic waste, recycling and green waste services for the local Noosa and Kilcoy Shire Councils and communities, as well as extensive commercial, industrial and hazardous waste removal services.
According to Transpacific Cleanaway Noosa's Maintenance Manager, Wal Cooper, the diverse mix of residential, tourism, industrial and commercial customers means that a wide range of equipment has to be deployed on a daily basis in order to maintain effective services.
Transpacific Cleanaway Noosa handles over 200 tonnes of waste daily which is collected by a fleet of purpose built trucks that includes eight side-lifters for the local Council's wheelie bin service, two front-lifters for small commercial and industrial bins, two hook-lifters for larger commercial and industrial bins and two skip-lifters for the building trade.
To handle the waste TPI Cleanaway Noosa operate a range of equipment to process and manage the landfill site that includes a 32 tonne compactor, excavators and a skid steer loader – all of which rely heavily on hydraulic systems to keep them operating.
As a 7 day a week service machinery downtime is not an option, so maintaining the hydraulics is a critical factor in being able to maintain services to their customers.
According to TPI Cleanaway Noosa's Wal Cooper the machinery really earns it keep with some of the trucks averaging 1,200 lifts a day, so with as many as 60 to 70 hydraulic hoses on each truck running at 2,800psi the risk of leaks or blown hoses is high.
Because TPI Cleanaway Noosa provide essential services they can’t make excuses, whatever the problem is they’ve just got fix it and fix it fast, so they rely on ENZED to minimise nightmares.
"The Noosa site handles over 200 tonnes of waste daily which is collected by a fleet of purpose built trucks that includes eight side-lifters for the local Council's wheelie bin service, two front-lifters for small commercial and industrial bins, two hook-lifters for larger commercial and industrial bins and two skip-lifters for the building trade.
"To handle the waste we run a range of equipment to process and manage the landfill site that includes a 32 tonne compactor, excavators and a skid steer loader – all of which rely heavily on hydraulic systems to keep them operating.
"And with the range of services we provide to our customers we often operate 7 days a week, which means that machinery downtime is not an option for us. So maintaining the hydraulics is a critical part of Transpacific Cleanaway being able to maintain essential services to our customers.
"And believe me they earn their keep, some of the trucks average 1,200 lifts a day and with as many as 60 to 70 hydraulic hoses on each truck running at 2,800psi the risk of leaks or blown hoses is pretty high.
"But because we are an essential service we can't make excuses, whatever the problem is we've just got fix it – and fix it fast, so we use ENZED to minimise nightmares.
"Over the past seven years we've worked closely with Andrew Fraser and his team from ENZED Sunshine Coast and they have helped us to develop an effective preventative maintenance programme that is designed to detect and rectify potential problems before they become big ones.
"We have a dedicated Hose Doctor and he conducts site audits of the depot after hours twice a week to inspect the fleet so that any hydraulic leaks can be detected and rectified when they start, as opposed to having to pull a unit out of service – or even worse having to clean up a resident's driveway or replace their turf when a hose blows. And believe me, 200 litres of hydraulic fluid everywhere is not a good sight.
"So by having ENZED keep a regular check on the fleet means I can rest assured that the trucks will be in an orderly state of repair when they go out each morning.
"Another area that ENZED has assisted us to minimise downtime is by extending the hose life by applying spiral wraps to the exterior of the hoses to give them extra protection, as we found most of the damage was external. This approach has been so successful that it's now standard procedure whenever a hose is changed.
"I've used a few hydraulic repairers over the years but in my experience the ENZED service is the best by far, like customer service for example, even if my regular Hose Doctor can't attend Andrew Fraser organises another Hose Doctor to fill in, so I know we'll always be looked after.
"And when it comes to the hoses and fittings they use you won't find better – we've really had a good run from their Parker Hannifin hoses. We run our hoses at 2,800psi whereas the Parker hoses they fit are rated at 3,800psi – so there's a good safety factor built-in.
"With ENZED I know they'll always go the extra mile for us if needed and I say that from first hand experience. We had eight side-lifter trucks that developed hose failures on some of the critical lines and as they were used for the sensitive domestic services we decided to ground the fleet.
"We called Andrew Fraser and he arranged for his Hose Doctors to go over all the trucks hydraulics with a fine toothcomb. The ENZED Hose Doctors understood that the trucks were operating right in the public eye so any hydraulic leaks would be reported to Council, which meant we'd cop the heat, so it was recommended for the total replacement of all the hoses and fittings on all eight trucks – which was going to be a massive job.
"To Andrew's credit he organised an army of ENZED Hose Doctors from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane to hit the project on a Friday night and they worked through the entire weekend to re-hose the lot of them so we were ready for service again first thing Monday morning.
"The ENZED team know our business and our equipment so they carry the hoses and fittings that we require which means downtime and inconvenience to our customers is kept to a bare minimum. I'd have no problems recommending them to anyone as they always get in and get the job done right," Wal said.
Commenting on the massive re-hosing exercise undertaken for Transpacific Cleanaway, ENZED Sunshine Coast's Andrew Fraser said that it reinforced ENZED's number one position in the industry as their size enabled them to mobilise the resources needed to fix the problem quickly.
"The success of our business is based on the promise of an "on-time, anytime – guarantee" so we do whatever it takes to live up to the promise.
"Like all of our customers we know what machinery Transpacific Cleanaway operates and the amount of use and abuse it's subjected to, so we keep our Hose Doctors stocked with the right products to keep them moving," Andrew said.
