A busy and at times weather-interrupted summer of Speedway action did nothing to thwart the stellar on-track performances of Palmerston North’s Shane Dewar, who claimed the coveted NZ number 1 moniker after six gruelling Oval Superstars Tour (OST) events, spread across late 2018 and early 2019.
Driving his ENZED-backed, Toyota-powered, Hyper Racing chassis, Dewar was a genuine front-runner throughout the summer of racing, as he and his enthusiastic crew travelled to all rounds of the OST title on both New Zealand’s North and South Islands.
In addition to taking out the OST title on home soil in Palmerston North last weekend, one of the season’s highlights included a dominant round win at the fifth OST event held at Meeanee’s North Island venue near Napier, while a strong second place in the North Island Mini Sprint Championship’s at Auckland’s Waikaraka Speedway came after Dewar had led for 19 laps of the 20-lap journey.
In addition to the successful and busy schedule of racing action, Dewar’s crew also attended the ENZED Superstock Teams Championship, which was attended by a crowd in excess of 35,000 people. With the ENZED-backed car and trailer on display, the team enthusiastically handed out over 200 team posters and stickers, while a pre-race appearance in the on-track parade also took place on both nights of the event.
Capping off an amazing season Dewar was delighted to secure the title on his home track in Palmerston and is already preparing to defend his prized OST championship crown next season.
