Touring Car Masters recently launched the 2014 season with the announcement that, while sponsorship in the industry is getting harder and harder to secure, ENZED Hose and Hydraulic Fittings Service are partnering with the category.
The naming rights sponsor announcement was made at the official TCM launch at ENZED Dandenong.
Driver Steve Mason said "ENZED’s support of the category is fantastic."
"I have been an ENZED customer for years. I used to go the ENZED store in Mansfield Newcastle all the time and they would help me out with hoses for my steering. We had more than one emergency call to the local ENZED store to help get the car back on the track."
Explaining how he became involved with racing, he said "I was 17 when I got into go-karts. I joined the Touring Car Masters series in 2007 at its inception."
"You must start in karts; it will teach you your racing craft. It’s also a lot of fun at a manageable cost."
When asked if he always wanted to be a race car driver the response was "Always!"
"It was muscle cars in particular that captured my imagination. As a kid I grew up watching Moffat and Brock they were my inspiration."
Racing is a family affair for the Masons, with his son Cameron also trying his hand at racing in the TCM series.
"I have an incredibly supportive family; my wife in particular is very understanding. It helps that they are my biggest fans."
Winning the Outright Highest Points in the 2013 TCM series, Mason is going into the 2014 season with great ambition.
"Back in the day Paul Stubberd and I used to race pretty hard. These days Brad Tilley gives me a run for my money."
"Winning one is the dream. Everything after that is just a bonus."
His best races have been the few that he has won at Bathurst, which he assures us is the best track in Australia. Clipsal, however, is the most exciting event.
"Clipsal is just so well-run and the venue and facilities are great. The best thing is the vibe – being in the middle of the city it just feels fantastic."
With 5 different winners from the first two rounds, it is anybody’s guess who will come out on top at Round 3 of the TCM series, held at Hidden Valley, Darwin from June 20th – 22nd.
