ENZED sponsored young gun Cam Waters will take to the track again this weekend for the Townsville 400 in what will be Prodrive Racing Australia’s 200th round start in the Supercar series. Waters and the rest of his Prodrive team will be looking to bounce back after a tough round in Darwin, where he was the team’s best performing driver with race results of 6th and 9th. This weekend will see Waters aiming to continue his consistent approach to the 2017 season, in which he has finished the last 3 races inside the top 10.
The series returns to Townsville for the 9th time, an event which is steadily gaining popularity amongst drivers and fans alike. The tight and technical street circuit ensures the field is kept incredibly close across all sessions on the track, in fact the top 2 finishers at the 2015 event were separated by a mere .2706 seconds.
Waters is still on the search for a career first podium, however returning to a proper street circuit for only the second time this year is sure to provide a boost of confidence for the 22 year old, who was incredibly strong at the season opening street circuit in Adelaide. If we take a look back to Waters’ championship winning 2015 Dunlop Series, he was able to take the win in race 1 at Townsville, and come home with a strong 2nd in race 2.
The 2017 Supercar season has been dominated by DJR Team Penske, Triple Eight Racing and Prodrive Racing, and with Cam in arguably one of the strongest cars in the field, there’s plenty of reasons we may see the number 6 at the pointy end of the field this weekend!
