Cam Waters took to the track again this past weekend for the Townsville 400 in what was a momentous occasion for Prodrive Racing (Australia). PRA took to the track for their 200th round as well as teammate Jason Bright’s 250th. The team was able to celebrate the occasion by getting all four of the team’s cars into the top 10 shootout on Sunday, which included a solid 8th place for Waters.
On Saturday, Cam was able to show a fast pace that kept in touch with the front runners for the length of the 200km race to finish in fifth place, keeping a hard charging Craig Lowndes at bay. It was an impressive result for the 22 year old from Mildura, who continues to show a first podium is not too far away. On Sunday, while the team was able to get the car setup well for qualifying and the shootout, they struggled with race pace. After starting on the 4th row of the grid, Cam ran a fast first sector of the race before dropping back to a disappointing 14th.
“It was kind of an up and down day. In qualifying I didn’t quite put my lap together but I was still seventh and still made the shootout which I was surprised by. It was really cool to make the top 10 but I think we missed the setup in the race a bit. I had a quick car but just no tyre life. We’ll go back to the drawing boards and work out where the other cars are where we are and find a better base for the next round” said Cam after the event.
Cam now heads to Ipswich for the Ipswich Supersprint which takes place on 28-30 July.
